Research interests
放散虫化石を用いた中古生界堆積岩類の岩相層序の研究を主とし,とくに北陸地方に広範に露出する中部ジュラ系－下部白亜系中部の手取層群の岩相層序学的研究を進めている.陸成層を主体とする手取層群において,海成層に焦点を当てて放散虫化石に基づく海洋古地理の復元に取り組んでいる.また,日本海形成前後から第四紀にかけての最近2000万年間を対象に,大型動植物化石を用いた古環境解析を進めており,現在はとくに板鰓類化石に注目している.また,洞窟を研究場として,古脊椎動物や現生哺乳類の観察に基づく,哺乳類化石の化石化過程の研究を,黒部峡谷のサル穴で継続的に進めている.
