High-resolution threshold electron spectroscopy has been applied to CO in the photon energy region 26-40 eV, where many sharp and broad CO+ states are observed. Dissociation of CO+ states in the photon energy range 30-40 eV has been investigated by threshold photoelectron-ion coincidence spectroscopy. Fragmentation characteristics of several distinct CO+ states, which are interpreted as Rydberg states converging to CO2+ states, are found to be state-specific, and are not the same as those of the underlying broad bands corresponding to valence excited CO+ states.
