Abstract

2,4‐Dinitro‐[7‐14C]benzaldehyde (4), a mutagenic substance which may have an unique metabolic activating pathways, was synthesized as a tracer for the detection of adducts of 4 with macromolecules. The preparation was performed in four steps from [7‐14C]toluene to give an overall radiochemical yield of 20% after purifying by TLC. The radiochemical purity was over 98%.
