N2 - Changes of the state of sorbed water into various polymer films by cooling were investigated by a FT-IR. In case of PMMA, the sorbed water under 58% RH did not freeze even at 153 K but that under 100% RH did at about 250 K. The spectral profile of this ice was the same as that of ice I h. Moreover, during the growth of ice, the band assigned to the water hydrated to the polymer chains also changed drastically. This result suggests that a part (surface) of ice formed in PMMA film interacts with polymer chains. On the other hand, in case of PSt, the sorbed water under 58% RH showed a liquid-like spectrum below 260 K on cooling, and then, freeze at homogeneous nucleation temperature, T H = 235 K, of liquid water. This result suggests that the ice formed in PSt film did not interact with the polymer chain.
