In Melt Spray Process, which was developed for particulate reinforced composites with low particle volume contents, aluminum melt is sprayed into a mold through a tiny hole under high pressure, making fine particles in the mold stir and disperse. Then, the melt collected on the bottom of the mold is unidirectionally solidified under high pressure and the billet of MMC is made. In this process, the level of melt/particles mixing depend on the spray force of melt and it is required for uniform particle dispersion to complete melt solidification before particles sediment on the bottom of the mold. 1-7% Vf composites, using 1S aluminum and alumina particles (0.06-15 μm in the average size), with macroscopic uniformity on particle dispersion could be corresponding to the size and volume fractions of particles using.
