N2 - Organic carbonates are important classes of organic compounds and chemical intermediates, which are renowned for their great versatility, low toxicity, and high biodegradability. Therefore, they are widely acknowledged as green reagents and benign alternatives to conventional organic solvents. Today, most of the industrial technologies are compelled to implement the green processes to address both sustainability and eco-friendliness. In this context, the deployment of biocatalysis leading to high chemo-, regio-, and stereo-selectivities of the target products turns out to be an attractive solution. In this chapter, we will focus on a multiple of attempts to integrate the remarkable features of carbonates as green solvents and reagents in the biocatalyst-mediated reactions.
