Field test on confined-reinforced earth method using geogrid reinforcement for asphalt pavement

This paper shows the results of the full scale field test on the confined-reinforced earth method (called CRE method) for asphalt pavement to verify restraint efficacy of unevenness occurring to road surface between concrete and soil structures due to earthquake. It consists of granular bed, geogrid reinforcement and confining rod. The structural characteristics of CRE method obtained from the test are as follows; 1) it restrains unevenness occurring in road surface by laying CRE layer under the asphalt pavement, 2) it keeps minimum trafficability of vehicles after earthquake. This paper reports the structure of CRE method, restraint efficacy of unevenness of asphalt pavement and its mechanism obtained from the test.
