N2 - A blood glucose measurement system based on mid-infrared, attenuated-total-reflection (ATR) spectroscopy was developed. The system is composed of a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), hollow optical fibers, and a multi-reflection prism and by using this system, clear signatures of glucose are observed in the absorption spectra of human lips. It was shown that the intensity of an absorption peak of glucose coincided with the blood-glucose level well and that measurement errors were less than 20%.
