A case of chest pain-variant asthma with deep inspiration-induced chest pain attack

A 17-year-old Japanese male with a history of childhood asthma consulted our staff with a complaint of deep inspiration-induced chest pressure and dyspnea. His chest pressure and dyspnea improved with inhaled procaterol hydrochloride, and he was diagnosed as having chest pain-variant asthma. In this case, chest pain should be induced in the comparatively large airways, such as the trachea, in pulmonary function tests. There is a need for better dissemination of knowledge about this disease.
