In mountainous areas suffering great damage in the Nepal Gurkha earthquake, it is currently difficult to use cement Mortar for economic reasons. So we tried Japanese traditional construction method 'Tataki' and carried out experiments on reinforced soil that mixed soil with lime to develop strengthened joint. We found similar method in ancient temples in Nepal. Although it is basic study at present, we confirmed improvement of durability by mixing lime, and amelioration of plastic deformation ability by adding straw. Also, it was checked that if the joint shear strength was as big as the experimental requirement, the masonry building was below two stories can obtain the necessary earthquake resistance by reinforced joints. In that case, it is desirable to provide not only the reinforcement of the wall, but also a buttress to suppress out-of-plane deformation.
