Abstract

The morphology of rod-shaped precipitates in an Al-1 wt% Mg2Si alloy was investigated by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and microbeam electron diffraction. It was found that the orientation relationships between the precipitates and the matrix may be divided into three types and their cross sections are elongated along the preferential direction in the Al-matrix.
