Abstract

In order to study the reentrant behavior in HoNi2B2C compound, the variation of the superconducting transition temperature Tc against the Nd substitution concentration x in polycrystalline samples of Ho1-xNdxNi2B2C was systematically investigated by the measurements of electrical resistivity in the temperature range from 2 K to 20 K. The Nd substitution for Ho showed the similar effect to break Cooper-pairs as an applied magnetic field. The pair breaking near Tm, which indicates the incommensurate magnetic ordering temperature of HoNi2B2C compound, is strong enough to suppress superconductivity, resulting in two distinct superconducting regions above and below Tm in the T-x phase diagram. The variation of Tc against Nd concentration x showed the breakdown of de Gennes scaling.
