Abstract

This paper proposes a novel single-drive bearingless motor with an axial gap switched reluctance motor. Radial and tilting directions are passively stabilized by the passive magnetic bearing, and an axial position of the rotor is actively controlled by the axial gap reluctance motor, which generates the output torque and the thrust force simultaneously. The output torque and the thrust force are controlled individually by using the current control. In this paper, the control method of the output torque and the thrust force of the proposed motor is carried out. In addition, start-up current of the proposed motor is considered.
