Abstract

Ion wave streamers were experimentally observed in the underdense and overdense plasma area. A low frequency sheath instability was observed in the plasma sheath area created by energetic ion bunches accelerated from the resonance region. A self-consistent ambipolar force pulled the ion bunch from the resonance region which traveled through the underdense plasma. The results show that the instability appears due the energetic ions generated from the resonant layer.
