Abstract

The intermetallic pseudo-binary compounds CexNd1 - xNi order magnetically due to exchange interactions between the Nd ions and also exhibit the Kondo effect. We report results of lattice parameters, magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity in these compounds. The effective paramagnetic moments are consistent with those of free Nd3+ and Ce3+ ions. A change of about 0.5% in the unit cell volume at x ≈ 0.6 indicates a possible valence transition of Ce.
