Abstract

Pseudocydonia sinensis (Thouin) C.K. Schneid. (Chinese quince), the only species of genus Pseudocydonia in the subfamily Amygdaloideae of Rosaceae, is a tree species, the fruits of which are used as an ingredient in candies, juice, and syrups.

This study was conducted to clarify the karyotype of P. sinensis. We found that this species had small, 2n=34 chromosomes, ranging from 1.0 to 1.8 μm in length, with the chromosome complement expressed as a formula of 2n=34=16m+14sm +2st+2tst.
