Abstract

The high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) observation was carried out to investigate the microstructure of precipitates in a Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy. The β″ and β′ phases have co-existed in the peak-aged specimen, and the morphology of their phases was expected as the needle. The interface between the precipitate and α-Mg matrix was not visible in the peak aged specimen because of the coherent strain between the precipitate and the matrix.
