Abstract

The morphology of Guinier-Preston (G.P.) zones in an Al-15mass%Ag alloy has been investigated by a high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). G.P. zones are probably a truncated octahedron and have facets of {111} and {100} planes of the matrix on their interface. The ratio of facetting decreased with increasing aging temperature. Facets are remarkable at lower aging temperature and small size of G. P. zones. Facets probably depend on the size of G.P. zones rather than aging temperature.
