Abstract

A new filled skutterudite SmFe₄As₁₂ has been synthesized at high temperature and high pressure. The magnetic properties of this compound was studied in terms of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, and specific heat measurments. SmFe ₄As₁₂ shows a magnetic transition at T_A = 39 K. Temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and field dependence of T_A observed in the specific heat measurement suggest ferrimagnetic alignment of the magnetic moments of Fe 3d band and Sm 4f electrons below T _A.
