Ferrimagnetism of new filled skutterudite SmFe4As12 synthesized at high pressure

Abstract

A new filled skutterudite SmFe4As12 has been synthesized at high temperature and high pressure. The magnetic properties of this compound was studied in terms of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, and specific heat measurments. SmFe 4As12 shows a magnetic transition at TA = 39 K. Temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and field dependence of TA observed in the specific heat measurement suggest ferrimagnetic alignment of the magnetic moments of Fe 3d band and Sm 4f electrons below T A.
