Abstract

Two studies were reported on the effect of silicon on the vaporization rates of Cu and Sn in molten iron. However, those results were not much in accord with each other. This paper shows that the effect of silicon on the vaporization rates of Cu and Sn in Fe-Si alloy was thermodynamically examined based on the activity coefficients of the Si-Cu and Si-Sn binary alloys, which were reported, and the correlations with the two previous studies were discussed.
