Abstract

In order to calculate the Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio under high strain rate, the small-scale tensile specimen was newly designed. The high strain rate tensile tests in a range from 0.11 to 110 (/min) were performed so as to measure the load, the longitudinal strain, and the transverse strain. The fracture surface at 1 (mm/min) tensile test consisted of the white internal area and the brown area near the surface. The fracture surfaces at 10, 100, and 1000 (mm/min) tensile tests were almost brown. The longitudinal strain was measured until the stress reached the tensile strength. The transverse strain was measured until the proportional limit. The tensile strengths σUTS of 1, 10, 100, and 1000 (mm/min) were 104, 112, 115, and 123 (MPa), respectively. Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios were calculated with the longitudinal strain and the transverse strain. In the present strain ratios range, Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios had no correlation with the tensile speeds, and the values of E and ν were in a range from 4.43 to 4.75 (GPa) and from 0.33 to 0.36, respectively.
