Abstract

In this paper, the effect of electromagnetic mutual couplings on a circular array antenna for angle of arrival (AOA) estimation was investigated. The analytical results reveal that even in the presence of mutual couplings, the radiation gain of the antenna for AOA estimation is nearly the same as that of a half-wavelength dipole antenna. We verified that this phenomenon is attributed to the decoupling mechanism caused by the cancellation of signals induced in 50-Ω load impedances.
