Abstract

The measurement of two-dimensional photoelectron spectrum was analyzed to study the autoionization and predissociation dynamics of superexicited HI. Investigations show the autoionization due to the 5 dπHI*(R A) state over a wide photon energy range. The autoionizing I *[R(3P0,1)] fragments were produced by the conversions of higher-n HI*(RA) states into HI *[R(4II1/2)]. The results show that potential barriers were created only on the adiabatic potential energy curve of HI *(RA).
