Abstract

Intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy appears to be a therapeutic method worth considering from the viewpoint of the quality of life of patients with progressive vulvar cancer prevalent in elderly persons. We report a case of vulvar cancer (72-year old woman, FIGO stage IIIa)complicated by infected pseudoaneurysm arising from the external iliac artery after implantation of a reservoir port system for chemotherapy, and which was surgically repaired successfully. Pseudoaneurysm followed by reservoir related infection is an uncommon but serious complication of intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy. In such a case, urgent surgical repair is required, so after implantation of a reservoir port system we must follow up the patient very carefully.
