Abstract

A 59-year-old woman underwent conserving surgery for left breast cancer, and received radiation to the postoperative breast. About six months after, a cough, fever, and dyspnea developed, and the chest radiograph showed consolidation in the left lung field. Transbronchial lung biopsy specimens revealed organizing pneumonia. She was started on prednisolone. The finding of her chest radiograph and her symptoms improved rapidly, and we stopped this drug after one year. Two months after stopping treatment, her chest radiograph showed a relapse of organizing pneumonia. She was started on prednisolone again, whereupon her chest radiograph findings improved rapidly. This case suggested that radiation to the postoperative breast induced organizing pneumonia.
