Abstract
This paper deals with the compatibility of power saving operation at stable levitation and smooth operation at starting levitation to an ac induction type magnetic levitation (Maglev) system. Electrical equipment with highly inductive reactance such as an ac induction type maglev system is low efficiency; therefore a phase advance capacitor should be inserted to achieve power-saving operation. However, as the power factor approaches to 1, the system does not allow gradual levitation of the thin plate at the start point because steep starting current flows through the circuit owing to a ferroresonance phenomenon. Accordingly, we added a switching function by inserting two different capacitors into the circuit and tried the improvement of starting levitation. We described the system configuration and the experimental results of serial levitating operation in this paper.
