Abstract
[SUMMARY] Purpose : To clarify the learning process of public health nurses during case discussions and explore a method to promote public health nurses' learning during case discussions. Methods: The study design involved a multiple case study. The subject was a case discussion in the workplace where discussions were held for more than one year. We conducted semi-structured interviews with one case presenter and two case discussion participants to capture the learning process, and interviews were conducted with public health nurses before and after the case discussion. We also conducted participant observations to understand the learning context. Through interviews to capture the learning process, nurses expressed their impressions and the supporting contents of the cases under consideration, and what they considered could be utilized in the future. We analyzed the data qualitatively according to a research framework developed using Korthagen's three-stage model of learning. Results: Cooperating with three workplaces and using three case discussions, six themes constituting the learning process were identified : Gestalt formation, schema formation, schema reinforcement, schema refinement, schema utilization, and schema transformation. Discussion : To improve public health nurses' learning during case discussions, it is necessary for the participants to attempt to deliberately advance the learning process.
